Haute Cabriere |
Although Haute Cabriére Wine Estate is most well-known for its exquisite Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vino offering, it is the home of Pierre Jourdan after all; the Franschhoek-based winery’s eatery, Haute Cabriére Restaurant is an institution in its own right.
Set into the side of the mountain overlooking the picturesque Winelands valley, it comes as no surprise that the food and wine destination offers guests the incredible opportunity to enjoy some of the esteemed estate’s vino classics alongside a Pinot Noir-inspired vino and fare pairing menu aptly titled: ‘True Marriage of Food and Wine’.
Striving to share the entire Haute Cabriére experience with others (not to mention their passion for pure, honest food and exclusive wines), the ‘True Marriage of Food and Wine’ pairing menu has been expertly curated – by 13 Restaurant Consultancy Nic van Wyk and Westley Müller and Cellar Master Takuan von Arnim – to not only elevate the flavours and textures on the plate but to also complement the exquisite range of Haute Cabriére wines and Pierre Jourdan Cap Classiques. And thus, as the folks at the esteemed estate maintain, the experience is fittingly a “true marriage of food and wine”.
Offering a six-course option that costs R515p/p (each course includes a glass of recommended vino), diners can expect to sample an array of the estates finest dishes as well as reds, whites and bubblies. Furthermore, the kitchen too prides itself in serving guests fresh and seasonal fare, which is either sourced locally or grown organically on the farm.
For the six-course menu, guests will enjoy a hearty celeriac soup (served with wild mushroom brioche) paired with Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose and braised, chargrilled octopus (served with baby gem lettuce and salsa verde) paired with Haute Cabriére Chardonnay Pinot Nior for starters. The next three meals on the menu’s agenda includes an Asian venison tartare paired with Haute Cabriére’s Unwooded Pinot Nior, grilled line fish (served with vinaigrette potato salad and sauce vierge), paired with Haute Cabriére’s Pierre Jourdan Tranquille and lamb loin (served with black rice, tomato, basil jus and provencal vegetables) paired with Haute Cabriere’s Pinot Nior Reserve. For dessert guests will indulge in a decadent orange soufflé (served with chocolate ice cream) paired with Pierre Jourdan Blanc de Blanc. What an amazing spread on offer! And that’s not all…
Placing emphasis on sharing their delectable offerings with everyone, the award-winning vino farm and restaurant also offers customers a delectable a la carte menu including some yummy kiddies options. Starters include cured smoked Franschhoek trout (served with braised baby leeks and herb butter gratin), a vegetarian pumpkin and goats’ cheese tortellini (served with brown sage butter) and veal sweetbreads and tongue (served with sauce soubise and veal jus). For mains guests can order Cape bouillabaisse (a selection of crayfish, line fish, mussels, calamari served with shaved fennel and saffron rouille), smoked ham hock and glazed pork belly (served with cannellini beans, brussels sprout and cider jus) as well as a vegetarian asparagus, pea, mint and caciotta cheese risotto. Desserts include yoghurt panna cotta (with guava ice cream and shortbread crumble) and prune clafoutis (served with Ratafia ice cream). Please note that these are only a few of the many mouth-watering options available on the menu.
For the little ones, kids can tuck into a yummy grilled chicken breast or piccolo steak (both served with chips) and for dessert can enjoy either a chocolate brownie or an ice cream cone with rainbow sprinkles.
What a delightful combination of great fare and exquisite vino; A True Marriage of Food and Wine the whole family will enjoy!
