Dombeya Awarded Best in Class

Dombeya Shiraz 2006 wins Gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition

The Western Cape wine industry is something we at CapeTownMagazine.com follow with a keen interest;

We’re proud to see Western Cape wines going from strength to strength – congratulations to Dombeya for this particular accolade!

This is the second release of the Dombeya Boulder Road Shiraz. The 2005 vintage also won a major award, with a Double Gold Medal at the 2007 Veritas Awards, one of only five such accolades awarded for Shiraz in South Africa that year.

Here is what the judges had to say about the wine:

"Deep red inky colour to rim. A very evocative and exotic nose, framboise, linden flower, cherries in kirsch, cassis and spiced oranges. The palate reveals more spicy characters, olive, cedar, sandalwood and cinnamon. The mouthfeel is very smooth yet powerful, tenacious grippy tannins do not hinder the elegant coursing of ultra ripe fruit across the tongue. The balance is a triangle of integrated perfection. The finish is a hedonistic delight. Superb."

This Gold Medal is the first International Award won by Dombeya, so a hearty congratulations is in order. You can purchase this wine directly from Dombeya on +27(0)21 - 881 3895 or keep a lookout for it at markets and in shops in the near future.
