Groote Post honours your old man on Father’s Day
New vintages of The Old Man’s Blend range
Groote Post, the beautiful, historic wine farm owned by the Pentz family in the Darling Hills, has just released new vintages of The Old Man’s Blend range. The ideal Father’s Day gift, these are serious wines at seriously good prices.
The Old Man’s Blend range, launched in 2011, honours Groote Post’s ‘Old Man’, Peter Pentz, who asked his family for a red wine blend, to enjoy as a tipple on cold, winter nights. The blend resulted in an annual red blend and subsequently, The Old Man’s Blend White and the Old Man’s Sparkle.
Groote Post’s The Old Man’s Blend Red 2010:
A blend of cabernet sauvignon (50%), merlot (41%) and cabernet franc (9%). Soft and smooth, the nose displays a touch of white pepper and spice, while rich berry and plum flavours can be tasted.
Interesting fact: Peter Pentz himself was heavily involved in the 12-month wood maturation and tasting process.
Price: R49.
Groote Post’s The Old Man’s Blend White 2011:
A blend of sauvignon blanc (60%), chenin blanc (20%) and semillon (10%), flavours of Granny Smith apple, crisp acidity from the sauvignon blanc, fruit from the chenin blanc and depth of flavour from the semillon.
Interesting fact: Winemaker, Lukas Wentzel, proudly stated, “This wine is sure to become a terrific-value-for-money-crowd-pleaser.”
Price: R44.
Groote Post The Old Man’s Sparkle Brut Rosé:
The salmon-pink, off-dry Cap Classique is a blend of merlot (53%), chardonnay (34%) and pinot noir (13%), which displays notes of crushed strawberries and plums, as well as yeasty and biscuit flavours.
Interesting fact: the wine spent two years in the bottle before its release, which has added great intensity.
Price: R83.
The Old Man’s Blend range is available nationally, at leading wine retailers and select restaurants. For more information, contact +27 (0)22 492 2825.
