Madame Zingara’s now operates as a quartet
Sidewalk Café, Bombay Bicycle Club, Café Mozart and Café Paradiso under Madame Zingara’s wing
After a year in hiatus, Madame Zingara’s Theatre of Dreams has not only returned with her sold-out “2010 Love Magic Tour”, she’s also opened a few new doors.
“By the end of this year we’ll have the Sidewalk Café, Bombay Bicycle Club, Café Mozart and Café Paradiso operating under our wing,” confirmed MD of Madame Zingara, Richard Griffin. “Our staff complement has grown to just under 200 across the group. It ‘s a joy and a privilege to witness the Madame Zingara crew embrace the challenges of growing, taking on more responsibility and looking after their own stores.”
Café Mozart – the princess of daytime cafes
“We love being able to give restaurants and coffee shops a bit of TLC, a new lease on life. At the end of October we re-opened the princess of daytime cafes, Café Mozart, after giving her a much-needed facelift. Most of the décor comes straight out of my house!”
Open 5 ½ days a week and located along Church Street’s Antique Market, the charming Café Mozart is the perfect spot for breakfast, to rest weary feet after a long morning’s shopping or to take advantage of the wi-fi and get some work done. There is also a dining room upstairs with a magnificent 12-seater table and a comfortable lounge area, which is ideal for meetings or functions.
Café Paradiso – the grande dame
“For many years, the best thing to do on a sunny afternoon was to head up to Café Paradiso on Kloof Street to enjoy the warm hospitality, Mediterranean ambience and superbly cooked traditional fare. For the last few months we’ve slowly been restoring this grande dame to her former glory,” Griffin explained.
The renowned Paradiso will reopen at the end of November and will also operate as Madame Zingara’s training kitchen. “Paradiso will be a permanent base for some of our older staff – those for whom touring has become tricky because they now have cats and dogs and families.”
Sidewalk Café and Bombay Bicycle Club – the yin and yang
Bombay Bicycle Club represents Madame Zingara’s past. Her wild and hedonistic side. It’s a venue where you are encouraged to let your hair down and expected to stay up way past your bedtime. Sidewalk Cafe symbolizes the new - it’s for the gentle soul. Together they represent the yin and yang of Madame Zingara.
Bombay Bicycle Club will always have a soft spot in Griffin’s heart. “After we lost Madame Zingara for a second time, Bombay is what got me out of bed and back at work. For that I will always be grateful.”
Sidewalk Café is about “the peace we find as we grow older”. This little sister on the hill is the ideal spot to take your mom for breakfast, your pooch after a sunset walk and your partner on a Thursday night. With plug points throughout the shop and free wi-fi during the day, Sidewalk Café is also perfect for a casual business breakfast or lunch.
