Top Shiraz honours Avontuur’s Dominion Royale stallion

Avontuur Dominion Royale Shiraz 2008 rates 4 stars in local Shiraz challenge

Avontuur’s 2008 Shiraz Reserve, Dominion Royale won a top accolade at the end of July 2010, with the announcement of the top Shiraz’s for 2010 in the annual Wine magazine Shiraz Challenge.

The wine is rated amongst the top 17 in the country with 4 stars amongst other great exponents of the varietal.  Described by the expert panel as “… rich and full with juicy fruit balanced by fresh acidity and well-judged oak” and achieving scores of 16.5 and two 17’s amongst others, the wine honours Avontuur’s great stallion, Dominion Royale.

Says winemaker, Natalie Nel:  “I’m obviously thrilled with the result and looking forward to seeing how this wine ages, as it seems to be performing better and better as time goes on.  I wanted it to be a big wine to commemorate Dominion’s larger than life personality and presence on the farm, and seeing it resonate with wine lovers and experts, gives me great satisfaction.”

The wine is available for tasting and sale @ R120 per bottle at the tasting room on the Estate, which lies next to the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. The tasting room is open daily.
