From Saudi Princes to Ricky Martin, Rushdi Harper – owner of WOW Cape Town Tours – has hosted some of the world’s famous celebrities on his tours, and yet his prices remain excellent.
More recently, he has worked with Worldsport S.A, Adidas (Worldwide), Nike South Korea, World Fuel Services, CLSA Hong Kong and many South American groups during the World Cup 2010.
Despite rubbing shoulders with celebrities when they join him on his Cape Town tours, Rushdi remains a humble man, and deeply passionate about his city.
He experienced the realities of apartheid first-hand when his family was evicted from District 6 when he was just 17.
Now, through WOW Cape Town Tours, this likeable family man is sharing not only his knowledge and experiences of the difficult past of Cape Town, but also his insight into what makes this city and its surrounding winelands tick like they do in current times.
Often described by his guests as being “knowledgeable, helpful and courteous”, Rushdi prides himself on offering opportunities to discover Cape Town in a unique and sincere way.
“My basic philosophy is to be honest and simply click with people. Honesty, reliability and integrity are the three most important things in this business,” is how he describes his approach for his guests.
The reason why our team enjoys Rushdi is that he is so open, genuine, down-to-earth and relaxed, and doing a guided tour with him feels like a good friend of yours has taken you on a personal tour through the Cape Winelands.
Having completed a tour guide course with the Livingstone Tourism Academy, Rushdi has excellent credentials as a qualified tour guide.
He also makes a point of connecting with his guests on a personal and friendly level.
This focus on friendliness lies firmly at the core of each and every guided day tour offered by Rushdi.
“I like to build relationships with my guests. I ask about their families, what they do for a living and so forth, and they in turn ask me about who I am and what my life involves – that connection is a foundation for a great day,” he says.
Rushdi boasts an extensive knowledge of all things Cape Town as well as the Winelands, yet he notes that he still learns new things about Cape Town and the vineyards every single day as he whisks his guests around on his tours from Cape Town to excellent wine estates around Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
A great aspect of doing a wine tour with Rushdi is that you have a choice between a 10-seater or 14-seater minibus and a Mercedes Benz E-Class. Larger coaches are also available.
The option to take the guided tour in a ‘normal’ car makes the experience feel even more personal, as if a personal best friend in Cape Town was driving you around; we can recommend it.
Guests can also request vehicles of any other type, and no matter which set of wheels is chosen, Rushdi ensures that he gives his guests every minute of his attention so they get the most value from the tours.
He believes that if he puts in as much effort as he can with every tour, his guests will build as many lasting positive memories as possible – and ultimately, that’s what matters on any tour of the Cape Winelands or Cape Town.
