10 Questions For: Katlego Maboe
Host of the popular SABC3 early morning show Expresso and the much-loved Strictly Come Dancing South Africa (season 7 and 8), this Cape Town-based TV presenter, singer, voice-over artist, MC, model and actor is certainly making his mark in the South African media industry
1. How would you describe what you do for a living?
2. What is your most vivid childhood memory?
The day I was accepted to Potchefstroom Central School. I was so excited at the prospect of going to this new school, which all the kids on my block wanted to attend, that when my mother sent me to buy bread I got lost in thought and brought back milk instead. It was the start of what would be a life-changing journey.
3. If you could invite any three people, dead or alive, for dinner, who would they be and why?
2. Nelson Mandela: To ask his advice on where to take the country and how to deal with our challenges.
3. Michael Jackson: The night’s entertainment would be next level with MJ there. He could teach us all to moonwalk.
4. If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?nbsp;
‘Bridge over Troubled Water.’ It’s a beautifully written song and after hearing Brian McKnight and Josh Groban sing it as a duet I have new found love for this comforting and moving melodic lyric.
5. How would you complete this sentence? The South African Cabinet should include a Minister of____________________________________
“If We Do This It Could Mess The Country Up So Let’s Reconsider” portfolio.
6. What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?
My love for family. I guess coming from a broken home this is one thing about my life that I want to really strive towards achieving.
7. What is your (honest) opinion of Cape Town?
There’s no denying the economic inequalities that have been keeping the ‘haves’ far away from the ‘have nots’ and I do hope that the new generation of Capetonians will make it their mission to eradicate this and make this a city for all who live in it. I have been in love with the natural beauty of this city since my first trip here when I was 11 and swore then that I would find a means to build a life here. So far so good and I hope to live here happily for a long time to come. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful city in the world.
8. What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
The fear of not being good enough to make it. I realised that your best should always be good enough for you. If you’ve given your best then you couldn’t have asked any more of yourself. That’s why I always strive to give the best or nothing.
9. What's the one thing you'd like to achieve before you die?
Have a happy and healthy family.
10. Which well-known South African personality would you, without a doubt, be able to beat in a street fight and why?
Hahahahahahahahaha! I would prefer not to fight but having to do so for survival I would beat anyone! Hahaha… because survival is the ultimate human instinct.
