10 Questions For: Jonny Barber Joel
This travelling barber is all about sharp cuts and snazzy do's in the Mother City while pioneering his own Scoot 'n Cut service on two wheels
1. How would you describe what you do for a living?
2. What is your most vivid childhood memory?
Sjoe! I think it'll have to be watching the springboks win the 1995 Rugby World Cup. I was about 6 years old and experienced pride for the first time. Not a selfish pride when you achieve something personally but the feeling of supporting something with all your heart and watching that thing succeed. To see Madiba and Francois Pienaar shaking hands stirred up a feeling that left me with a joy that was bigger than the game I had just watched.
3. If you could invite any three people, dead or alive, for dinner, who would they be and why?
1. Vidal Sassoon - he changed the way people cut hair and I'd like to share some of my own ideas with him.
2. Stephen Fry - I like the sound of his voice and he's really funny.
3. Nelson Mandela - I would enjoy having a dance off against him after a couple of tequilas.
4. If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?
I would probably sing something like 'Two Beds and a Coffee Machine' by Savage Garden because it's one of the few songs that I can remember the whole song without adding my own version of lyrics into it.
5. How would you complete this sentence?nbsp; The South African cabinet should include a Minister of _____________________________.
Responsibility
6. What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?
Hahahahaha! I'd have to say that most people growing up assumed that I was gay because I always had more girl friends than guy friends. I guess I just preferred female company.
7. What is your (honest) opinion of Cape Town?
The place: heavenly
The people: bubbles
8. What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
Quitting my salon job. After five years of working somewhere for someone it seems foreign to manage your own time but once I left I took with me the work ethic I had learned from the best and pushed it into my own goals.
9. What's the one thing you'd like to achieve before you die?
I would love to be part of a community that loves one another equally without the help of a religion, class, or race.
10. Which well- known South African personality would you , without a doubt, be able to beat in a street fight and why?
Jeannie D - after washing her hair for five years, I know her weaknesses!
