Accommodation in the Table Mountain National Park
From luxury tented camps by the sea to mountain cottages in these beautiful parks in the Western Cape
SANParks have a variety of places to stay that offer peace and quiet with their natural surroundings, plus they’re in great locations with plenty to do and see. There are luxury tented camps close to the beach as well as cottages in the forest, and even on top of Table Mountain. They range in price and there’s something for every wallet.
Eland and Duiker self-catering cottages
Olifantsbos self-catering cottage
Cape Point offers the ultimate natural experience, from the fynbos and uninterrupted views to the galloping ostriches and grazing buck you’ll need a couple of days to take it all in. Olifantsbos cottage offers this opportunity with your very own private beach thrown in for good measure. The two houses are backed by craggy rock faces and look out onto a quiet stretch of beach.
Orange Kloof tented camp
Orange Kloof tented camp is a place that’s a bit of a surprise in 'beachy' Hout Bay. Here we’re talking forest. A rare Afromontane forest surrounds the beautiful camp, which is located just down the road from Constantia Nek going towards Hout Bay. Opened in 2007, Orange Kloof offers comfortable facilities so close to Cape Town – ideal as a getaway for families, nature lovers, hikers or for team building.
Overseers cottage
If you are looking for unusual accommodation in Cape Town, this is it. Did you know one can sleep on top of Table Mountain? Imagine the city at your feet and the stars as your canopy. Sounds good? The beautiful Overseers Cottage gives you the awesome opportunity to spend a night on Table Mountain, one of the New7Wonders of Nature, in comfort and surrounded by jaw-dropping views of the entire peninsula. This cottage is part of the Hoerikwaggo Trail, but you can also rent it separately for a weekend away. You are guaranteed to wake up refreshed; it’s a rare privilege to spend a night at this special place.
Silvermine tented camp
This luxury tented camp gives you the opportunity to stay in this beautiful nature reserve on top of Ou Kaapse Weg. The wooden walkways and structures are built from timber that has been felled in the Table Mountain National Park and has been designed to have as little impact on its surroundings as possible.
Slangkop tented camp
Each of the SANParks tented camps has a theme, and the lights made from whale bones (taken from a whale that had washed up on the beach) accompanied by the sound of the sea nearby leave no doubt about which element inspired this luxury tented camp. It’s in the popular seaside village of Kommetjie and you can see the Slangkop Lighthouse (one of the oldest in South Africa) from the camp. There’s a sheltered outdoor braai area with seating next to the fully equipped communal kitchen.
Smitswinkel tented camp
Smitswinkel is the newest tented camp for SANParks and is located approximately 300m from the Cape of Good Hope entrance gate. The environmental friendly camp ties in with SANParks‘s accommodation concept: 'Touching the earth lightly'. Here you won’t find heavy structures, nor treated woods, Smitswinkel has been constructed entirely from locally harvested and milled timber, with a minimum impact design. Interestingly, Smitswinkel was previously a forestry station.
Wash House
Platteklip Wash House is part of the original historical Wash House complex where Cape Town’s washer women plied their trade in the mid to late 19th century. This house is built on the slopes of Table Mountain and was carefully restored to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings.
Wood Owl cottage
Stay in this beautifully restored old forester’s cottage, which is right in the midst of the Tokai pine plantation on the slopes of the Constantiaberg. It offers easy access to the forest and mountain, but is close to the city as well so you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest but still venture out for some shopping and eating out.
