Cape Town International Airport Open
The safety measures implemented for travellers and workers
From now on travellers will have to scan their own boarding passes when they fly at Cape Town International Airport (CTIA). This is just one of the measures that was unveiled today when CTIA General Manager Deon Cloete led a tour to showcase the steps taken by airport management to re-open the airport.
Under level 3: Only laptops in trays
Traveller will place all of their loose items in their hand luggage; they will re-enter the queue should they trigger the metal detector, and only laptops will be allowed in trays,” said a statement from the Western Cape Government, whose officials were at the tour.
Over and above that travellers will need to wear masks; some airport access points and terminal entrance points may be reduced; and there will be temperature screening. All this will affect check-in and boarding time, so travellers need to arrive two hours ahead of time.

Travellers need documents from employer
Business travellers will need to produce a letter on company a letterhead, signed by a manager, as well as a completed employer permit form. No traveller can fly without these documents.
“At this stage, no scheduled international commercial flights will be processed, however we will continue to process international repatriation flights,” said Deon Cloete.
