10 Questions For: Amy Samuels
Cape Town-based Amy Samuels is a girl of many talents. In addition to being a Sports Reporter for eNCA, Amy believes in the gift of giving back and has volunteered for the Reach for a Dream Foundation and has a vision as a Philanthropist.
1. How would you describe what you do for a living?
2. What is your most vivid childhood memory?
My sister and I grew up in Pretoria. We didn’t have the pleasure of growing up with our cousins. We lived in a complex, so making friends wasn’t always easy. The friends we made became our siblings. Every day after school we’d meet our friends in ’The Jungle’ (it was really just a huge rock with a few bushes and flowers around it. This is where we’d re-enact The Lion King until the sun went down. Scenes I tell you. Scenes!
3. If you could invite any three people, dead or alive, for dinner, who would they be and why?
1. My late Grandmother – She’s the only one who knew how to make my tea after a ’long’ day at school. She needs to recruit a new candidate at this dinner.
2. My late Uncle - I’d like to ask him if there’s anything else I can do to make him proud and see his legacy live on.
3. Sir Alex Ferguson – I want him to share his secret to success with me. I’ll store it in a safe place.
4. If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?
‘Wannabe’ by the Spice Girls. I’ve been rehearsing in front of the mirror all my life. I’m ready! I’d rock the platforms off of this track!
5. How would you complete this sentence? The South African cabinet should include a Minister of _______________
Humanity.
6. What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?
That I’ve gotten to where I am based on my appearance.
7. What is your (honest) opinion of Cape Town?
There’s too much to explore! I feel so overwhelmed *cries in I need more hours in a day to explore. The people are lovely, the views are mesmerizing. And despite the perception that Cape Town people are lazy... people are HUSTLING! I have so much respect for them.
8. What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
9. What's the one thing you'd like to achieve before you die?
Building a hub for terminally ill kids – a connect group where we could all tick off things on our bucket lists TOGETHER.
10. Which well- known South African personality would you, without a doubt, be able to beat in a one-on-one dance-off and why?
Am I allowed to forfeit this round? I can’t even do the sprinkler
