Hush-Hush: New Art Of Duplicity Speakeasy Bar in Cape Town
How to get the list, plus the glamour, decadence and luxury of yesteryear at a hush-hush speakeasy in the city
A secret password or your name on the guest list. A hidden location. A new experience. Take a step back in history to the time of Al Capone and Mae West. Picture yourself in a Great Gatsby setting when speakeasy establishments sold alcoholic beverages hush-hush in the Prohibition era of the 1920s in the United States.
Fast forward to today and you can relive the experience at the Art of Duplicity speakeasy in Cape Town.
You can only visit Art of Duplicity if you have your name on the guest list or know the secret password. You’ll get a hint to the location when you make a reservation. When you find it, the doorman will lead you to the speakeasy.
A PEEK INSIDE
Elaborate crystal glassware, soft lighting and rich mahogany fill the custom-designed space. Sink into Chesterfield sofas and plush chairs in warm colours and textures.
THE COCKTAILS
Bartender Brent Perremore grabbed the winning position in the regional leg of the World Class South Africa Mixology Finals 2018. Expect unconventional cocktails such as the smoked maple syrup, bourbon, and quail egg Hillbilly Breakfast Flip. How about the limoncello, lemon juice and rosemary syrup with olive oil-washed vodka Sicilian Neck Tie or the full-cream sherry, vanilla-infused bourbon, lime juice and root beer Bag o’ Brass-Knuckles?
LIVE JAZZ
To truly transport you to another era, there are live jazz performances on Fridays and Saturdays that make a great romantic date option. After you make a reservation, you'll be added to the mailing list and you'll receive monthly jazz line-up.
