It’s About The Bike At The Baleia Wines Annual MTB Race
Get your weekly fitness fix in Riversdale!
On Saturday, 9 September 2017 Baleia Wines are hosting their annual MTB challenge on their Riversdale estate. The race will dare contestants to compete in this grueling and rewarding feat of fitness and strength. You might be sore on Monday, but boy will it be worth it! Once you’ve finished your challenging race, you can enjoy the delicious treats from La Bella Deli & Restaurant! There will be activities for the kiddies too.
The race offers competitors the opportunity to take part in one of three courses: 88km, 40km or the easier 19km route. All three the route options take competitors through vineyards, across open fields, down gorges, up hills, into gullies and around just about every other type of geographical obstacle you can think of! Beware, this challenge is not for the faint-hearted. The 88km route starts at 8am and costs R200/p to enter. The 40km race starts at 8:15am and costs R140/p to enter, and finally, the 19km race starts at 8:30am and costs R80/p to enter.
”The first event last year was met with great enthusiasm and we had participants from as far as Cape Town. Unfortunately the weather did not play along, but everyone still enjoyed the day and the hospitality of Baleia Wines and La Bella Deli & Restaurant, while the visitors had the opportunity to get to know Riversdale and the beautiful Hessequa area better,” said Abraham de Klerk, winemaker and general manager at Baleia Wines.
If mountain biking isn’t really for you, but you’re determined to get your fitness fix, you’ll be delighted to know that there is also a 12km trail run happening. This race will also take you on a tour of the lovely estate and you’ll get a chance to see all the delights of a wine farm in spring – how stunning! The trail run starts at 9am and costs R100/p to enter which you can do on the morning of Saturday, 9 September 2017.
