Hein Kymdell from We Love Low Carb and owner, Gizelle, of Banting Baker Gigi, together with other small traders host Cape Town’s official banting and keto food market, A Low Carb A-Fair. It’s on the first Saturday of every month in Helderberg, Strand from 9 am to 2 pm (temporarily suspended) and on the last Saturday of every month from 9 am to 3 pm in Paarden Eiland.

VISIT A LOW CARB A-FAIR

This food market is not just for people who follow banting and keto diets, but for all foodies. You’ll find boerie rolls, cheese, biltong, broth, chocolate, juice, ice cream, tarts, cakes, nuts, coffee, and more. There will also be loads of tasters available for the curious foodies. There are also huge specials on the day. 

Besides the variety of food, there will also be live entertainment and you will get a chance to meet the owners of all the food companies you love and support.

THINGS TO REMEMBER 

Bring a cooler box so you can keep your frozen meals, ice creams, and other fresh foods while you enjoy the rest of the market. No bookings are necessary, but wear your mask and practice social distancing.

WHAT IS BANTING AND KETO?

In short, banting is a low-carb, high-fat diet. That means no grains, added sugars, vegetable and seed oils, or foods with gluten. Keto is also a low-carb, high-fat diet. The key difference is that it is more restrictive than a banting diet, especially when it comes to carbohydrate intake.
