She’s the artist behind hits like “Hamba Wena”, “Wamuhle” and “Siyathandana”. You might have seen her perform recently in Cape Town at the Friends of Amstel festival. We spoke to singer-songwriter Boohle about motherhood, the music industry and the power of prayer. Plus, get a taste of her music and check upcoming performances.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?nbsp;
Living to your full potential and accepting your existence, because if you accept who you are and where you are that’s when you become happy. But, if you don’t it leads to depression, anxiety and the sense of feeling unfulfilled.

What is one artist/ album/song (other than your own) you are listening to now? What do you love about the artist, song or album?nbsp;
Isibuko by Sjava. The message on the album is too profound, and Sjava is an immaculate artist in our time.

What is the genre of music people would be surprised to learn you enjoy? Why do you love it?nbsp;
Neo-soul, Afro-pop and of course gospel. I grew up listening to gospel a lot in my household. And then when I grew to find my sound, I fell in love with soul and pop.

The small/hidden/quaint restaurant in Cape Town or the Western Cape that I love is...because…
Seven Colors Eatery in Battery Park at the Waterfront. It serves South African food and real hearty meals that can make one miss home, haha.

My hero in real life is…because…
My mom. She’s a real queen. I never understood the things she went through when I was younger, but now I understand because I’m a grown woman myself. And I always get mind-blown by how she’s still standing strong. She is a true inspiration to me.

The motto I live by is…
Celebrate what you have rather than crying over what you lost or don’t have.

One living person I most admire is…and it’s because they…
I admire myself because, just like my mother, I go through a lot as a woman but I still stand strong and look beautiful. I am a princess, thanks. Haha.

One hack, exercise, tool I use to stay sane in this busy industry…
I pray, because it keeps me sane. I know that I have someone who can carry my burdens for me, and I truly give them all to the most High.

Prayer and my son, he gives me so much joy and motivation.
