It’s Braai Day!
Celebrate South African culture at a selection of Braai Day events this Heritage Day
Get those tongs ready people, Heritage Day, the public holiday that celebrates South Africa’s cultural diversity, is on Thursday, 24 September 2015, and that means firing up the braai. Luckily, to help you celebrate in style, we’ve got the lowdown on how to braai like a boss courtesy of BraaiBoy as well as the skinny on the best places to buy meat in Cape Town from the king of braai himself, Jan Braai. And for those tired of charring chops and boerewors, we’ve collected a few more eclectic recipe suggestions:
- Celebrate Cape Malay heritage with Jan Braai's delicious snoek braai recipe or use ostrich and game instead of the usual beef and chicken.
- Ever had potjiekos? It’s a delicious ‘stew’ slow cooked over hot coals in a traditional cast iron pot. No recipe’s needed, so get creative; ingredients can include anything from vegetables to ostrich neck.
- Alternatively, try our gourmet braaibroodjie recipe followed by our Amarula Melktert for a truly South African treat.
Otherwise, if you’d rather not do any of the dirty work yourself, check out all the great things to do for the Heritage Day weekend.
