Ever Tried Open-Water Swimming In A Dam?
Swim a mile to raise funds for a school or picnic on a wine farm to support runners
Pick a swimming distance of up to one mile (1.6km) or a running distance up to 5km and challenge yourself at the Bridge House Mile taking place at Boschendal Wine Estate on Saturday, 1 February 2020.
Bridge House is a school and college in Franschhoek that takes kids from crèche to matric. And the Bridge House Mile the brainchild of ex-cricketer Dave Rundle and former Miss SA Amy Kleinhans, is a fundraiser for sporting development at the school. The event is in its ninth year and while fundraising is still the aim, there is also a vision to make the event a premier open-water swimming event in South Africa.
TIMED SWIMS IN YORK DAM, RUNS, OR BOTH
With distances from 100m for children to an Elite Mile for over 18s with a qualifying time of 25 minutes or less, there is something for everyone. This year also sees the introduction of a 1.6km and 5km trail run.
A FUN DAY OUT AND LIVE MUSIC FOR THE FAMILY
Picnics can be pre-ordered online. You can order vegan burgers, shawarmas, pancakes and goodies from Boschendal’s deli.
You can expect a small kids’ area as well as food, drinks and music. Bridge House pupils will be performing various live acts throughout the morning.
Boschendal offers walks, horse riding, picnics and mountain biking trails (you can hire bikes if you don’t have one). Accommodation is available for families wanting to make a weekend stay out of their visit to Franschhoek.
