Business of Design Conference
Who says creative can’t be commercial? This conference proves it can!
If you’re a South African creative business looking to commercialise your company, this two-day conference will provide you with all the tools and inspiration necessary to take your talents to the next level. This year, the programme – hosted at the Inner City Ideas Cartel – runs from Tuesday, 23, until Wednesday, 24 August 2016, with a stellar line-up that includes the likes of Luke Dale-Roberts (The Test Kitchen), Julian McGowan (Southern Guild), Emilie Gambade (Elle magazine) and Mike Abel (M&C Saatchi Abel).
Business of Design was founded by four key industry influencers: Trevyn and Julian McGowan of SOURCE, Southern Guild, GUILD and Design Network Africa; and Cathy O’Clery and Laurence Brick, the creative duo behind 100% Design South Africa and Platform Creative Agency. The innovative foursome decided to share their 80-years of collective expertise with the world via the Business of Design concept, which is all about teaching emerging business to get ahead of trends, build a unique brand, stay relevant, find design direction, and evolve into a valuable asset.
Incorporating lectures, workshops, panel discussions and more, there’s not much the extensive conference doesn’t cover. Learn about everything, from pricing systems and sales growth, to product development, industry standard compliancy, marketing and managing the press, handling the online world of social media, approaching retailers, and meeting international exporting standards.
Aside from savvy skills and business acumen, you’ll also have the pleasure of listening to a selection of incredible people at the top of their game. Here’s a selection of some of the talks scheduled over the two days:
