For over three decades, KLM has proudly connected Cape Town and Amsterdam with direct flights, facilitating cultural and business exchanges between the two vibrant cities and beyond. The KLM Cape Town route embarks year-round, and until the end of March, the route will be extended to offer 10 extra weekly flights.

KLM is not just about connecting people and cultures; they also want to connect people to themselves by promoting healthy living. This resonated with our mission to have a DNA-changing impact on this city, because being active is a simple, joyous, and sometimes rigorous way to transform your life.

This is where Active to Amsterdam comes in encouraging you to share your active in a fun, inclusive and rewarding way for the chance to WIN.

ACTIVE GETS YOU TO AMSTERDAM 2025

Active Gets You To Amsterdam started in 2022 as a celebration of KLM’s 30 years of flights between our two cities. 

During the 2022 challenge, Cape Town rose up to the challenge to get active. And we did it together. You and us, with your friends, and thousands of others around Cape Town, doing it with you.

You inspired us with your running, hiking, roller skating, pole dancing… You showed that staying active can be exciting, playful, and even a little daring.

And now, we're back! The month-long challenge kicks off again on Thursday, 30 January. It celebrates health, activity, and community while shining a spotlight on KLM’s 32-year commitment to connecting Cape Town, Amsterdam and beyond.

WHY AMSTERDAM?

Amsterdam’s appeal as a vibrant European city is wrapped in its artistic heritage, and elaborate canals lined by narrow houses with gabled facades. 

You can explore iconic sites like the Van Gogh Museum, stop to smell the tulips and get a taste of Heineken with an interactive tour. 

Of course, cycling is key to the city’s character, which is conveniently dotted with cycle paths and lock-up posts. Renting a bike in Amsterdam is almost a rite of passage for tourists.

10 AMSTERDAM MUST-TRIES

1. Rijksmuseum: Admire masterpieces of Dutch art from Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh and more, and explore a vast collection of European and Asian art.

2. Anne Frank House: This historic museum tells the moving story of Anne Frank during World War II.

3. Canal Cruise: Explore the city from the water and admire views of Amsterdam's charming architecture.

4. Jordaan: A charming neighbourhood with cobbled streets, indie boutiques, pubs and hip eateries.

5. Begijnhof: Hofjes (almshouses) from the 14th century. The secluded courtyard and garden provided homes for Beguines, unmarried religious women.

6. Vondelpark: The largest and most well-known park in Amsterdam. Go for a stroll, ride along its pathways on a bike, have a picnic or visit one of its cafés.

7. Heineken Experience: Take an interactive tour through the former brewery and learn about the history of this iconic Dutch beer.

8. NEMO Science Museum: This is the biggest science museum in the Netherlands. Get hands-on with interactive exhibits and workshops.

9. Albert Cuyp Market: A vibrant local market with over 260 stands selling food, flowers, and unique souvenirs. It started in 1905.

10. Red Light District: This infamous district also has peep shows, gay bars and cinemas, an erotic museum, and a museum of cannabis.

There are two ways to enter (you can only enter on one platform).

What judges will be checking for

One share is one entry, so the more you share your journey, the better your chances of winning.

We're looking for authentic moments of joy. Show us the stunning landscapes on your runs, the exhilaration of surfing, the silliness of a rollerblading session with friends, or the pure joy of dancing to your favourite songs.

Terms and conditions of KLM tickets prize 

1. Entries will be assessed daily and reshared on our social channels by the CapeTownMagazine.com team.

2. The people with the most quality entries will go into a top 10.

3. One winner will win two tickets. 

4. The first prize is two free economy class tickets on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from CapeTown to Amsterdam, including all airport taxes and surcharges.

5. No correspondence will be entered into once the winners have been chosen.

6. Operating airline: Valid on KLM operated flights only, network wide.

7. Class of travel: Economy class. Upgrades are not permitted.

8. Validity period: The tickets must be issued in 2025. Travel must be completed by 31 December 2025 and cannot be extended beyond this date. Date changes are only permitted in the case of force majeure.
