Cape Town City Set for Another Crunch Clash with Soweto Giants
The Citizens will want to replicate the intensity of their performance in the draw with the Mamelodi Sundowns
After an intense and disciplined performance in their away draw with Champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City will be looking to add a goalscoring edge to these positives when they play their next game at home.
They're hosting one of the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday, 27 August at 7:30pm at Newlands Stadium. City can expect a challenging atmosphere because Cape Town has one of the biggest Kaizer Chiefs supporters bases in the country.
WHY ARE THEY PLAYING AT NEWLANDS
Cape Town City have played their last two home games at the Athlone Stadium and Newlands Stadium respectively. This is because the pitch at the Cape Town Stadium, City's usual home ground, isn't fit to be played on.
Speaking at a press conference last week, City owner John Comitis confirmed that the Cape Town Stadium pitch still isn't up to standards, and feels that he should request to move the game outside the city, as the Athlone Stadium can't safely host a game against a team like Chiefs.
It was decided to move the game to Newlands Rugby Stadium, which is more adept at handling the logistics large crowd movement.
DO CHIEFS HAVE AN EDGE?
The Amakhosi have two wins out of two in their opening PSL matches, and weren't involved in the MTN 8, so they've will have two weeks without any rigorous match action. They will, however, be playing City three days after playing another tough Match against Supersport United in Soweto.
Cape Town City drew there last game 1-1 away to Champions Mamelodi Sundowns. They'll also have a chance to take advantage of the short turnaround time in Chief's fixtures, but they will still need to be mentally tough as this won't be a normal home game with Chiefs normally attracting big crowds when playing in Cape Town.
