Cape Umoya Hoping For A Better Season
Will two new strikers make a difference?
Last update: 2 August 2019
Umoya will want to forget their 2018-19 campaign that was characterised by too many early losses under ex-head coach, Roger de Sa, who was redeployed as general manager.
However, following the promotion of his assistant Dominic Isaacs to the top job, the team managed to move slowly away from the danger zone with some good wins, which included hammering University of Pretoria 6-0 on the final weekend.
Without those six goals, Umoya would’ve been in the unenviable position of netting the least number out of the entire league, so it came as no surprise that Isaacs has decided to strengthen his forward line with a pair of well-travelled strikers, Gregory Roelf and Roggert Nyundu.
In fact, Roelf, a model professional, has represented a record number of seven Mother City outfits and should make a vast difference.
The jovial character’s happy to be reunited with his former team mate, Gavin Hammers, who scored the fastest NFD goal last season in the opening minute against Uthongathi FC plus a brilliant hat-trick in the slaughter of University.
If Hammers and Namibian international, Joslin Kamatuka, continue their fine form on the wings then the Spirited Ones should enjoy a far better programme.
Umoya’s been boosted by an official partnership with Old Mutual which means their academy in Pinelands has been renamed Cape Umoya Academy.
