Winter night market at Intaka Island
Samosas, curry, tacos, spring rolls, boa buns, churros - a food lovers’ dream
Last updated: 6 June 2022
Every last Friday of the month, during winter, Intaka Island comes to life as people from all over the city head to the Century City Night Market. There’s live music, a thrifting corner, and every type of cuisine to satisfy all foodies.

TRY AN ARRAY OF DIFFERENT CUISINES
You’ll find a feast of Mexican food, from burritos and enchiladas to quesadillas and tacos. Snack on crispy spring rolls filled with bobotie, sesame chicken and even duck, as well as dim sum, pork bao buns, or kimbap (a Korean dish made from cooked rice, vegetables and meat, rolled in dried sheets of seaweed). Or opt for a beef-cheese or corn-chilli-and-cheese empanada.

There are also samosas, with five fillings to choose from – spicy potato, cheese-and-corn, steak-and-cheese, chicken or mince; as well as hearty Cape Malay curries, perfect for winter. End the night with freshly made churros, carrot cake, mini-pecan-nut tarts, or other sweet delights.

SHOP FOR MORE THAN FOOD
Even though this market is a food lover’s dream, there are also other local products to tempt you. Thrift your way through a selection of pre-loved clothes and buy jewellery to match the threads/clothes. Beat the cold with a new pair of woolly socks and a luxurious winter blanket. Look out for interesting information about the nature on the island placed throughout the venue. You can also visit Intaka Island on any other day.

TAKE IN THE VIBE
As the sun sets, Intaka Island lights up in a green glow and, as market-goers from all across Cape Town start to arrive, the vibe becomes electric. The smell of the different types of food come together, creating a comforting vibe. That, paired with live music and gas heaters set up throughout the market, makes it the perfect space to unwind on a cold, wintery night. Get there early if you want a seat, though, the market fills up quickly and bustles with people.
