Cape Town’s new bicycle map
Navigating a new way to get around the city
A large-format, folded print map has been published to encourage people to use bicycles as a mode of transport around Cape Town.
This map will include cycle lanes and ways, parking racks as well as explaining bicycle street signs and the rights and responsibilities of cyclists. The first edition covers the central city, the segregated West Coast to Milnerton route, the southern suburbs and south peninsula. The winelands map, which will probably be published in October, will include the Durbanville area as well as the winelands.
The map is available from Ride Your City (www.capetownbicyclemap.co.za) directly or from various shops in town for just R40 or for free from one of their sponsors. Visit their site for more information or call them on +27 (0)21 701 7150 and help make Cape Town a bicycle friendly city.
We interviewed Tobie Groenewald, who made the first fixed-gear bicycles in South Africa and chose our favorite cycling routes in Cape Town and surrounds.
