Global Brand, Local Flavour at this Luxury Cafe Gem in Sea Point
Coco Safar offers a luxury experience from breakfast to dinner while still being affordable.
Gourmet speciality coffee and a botanical microbrewery for cold-brewed rooibos tea. Coco Safar is open from breakfast to dinner with dessert and gourmet coffee in between.
It has an otherworldly feel, an opulent luxury, a sense of being somewhere exotic. The slow music echoing throughout the cafe gives you the impression of sitting in a French cafe in the midst of the Second World War, or in New York during the popular “lunching” period of the ‘80s.

One of the delightful highlights of Coco Safar is that you can get five-star meals for the entire day at a fraction of the price without having to book months in advance. Whether it’s an early morning breakfast, a business or casual lunch with colleagues, or dinner with a loved one, the extensive menu caters for the whole family and lives up to its delicious reputation.
ONE-OF-A-KIND COFFEE BREWED WITH CLASS
There is nothing ordinary about Coco Safar, especially when it comes to its fresh-brewed coffee and Rooibos tea; they aim straight for the best and craft all the drinks they serve right on site. And it starts with the hardware. The owners commissioned the world’s leading designer and maker of commercial espresso machines, Kees van der Westen of the Netherlands, to build the world’s first Spirit Idrocompresso machine. It was exclusively hand built for Coco Safar and the cutting-edge manual compression system produces gourmet coffee everyone has to taste at least once.
The beans are roasted in small batches in their street-level Cape Town Roastery & Coffee Lab on a Loring Smart roaster – the first of its kind in South Africa. The beans are then ground to fine perfection and served with care by the highly-trained baristas as espresso, pour over or siphons.
START YOUR MORNING OFF RIGHT
From Belgian waffle and chicken to croissant benedict and greens or a warm gluten-free rosemary banana bread with caramelised banana, Coco Safar boasts a range of breakfast options. Open from 7am on weekdays and from 8am on weekends, you can choose between sweet or savoury breakfasts, which you can pair with the delicious one-of-a-kind brewed coffees and teas.
A LUNCH BEST SERVED WARM
Served 12pm–6pm daily, Coco Safar offers a range of hot, comfort food with several vegetarian and vegan options, as well as salads, soups and sandwiches and patisserie items for lunch.
INTRODUCING THE NEW DINNER MENU
From 6pm until closing time, Tuesday to Saturday, Coco Safar now serves its new dinner menu. Look forward to delicious Haute comfort food such as slow-cooked smoked brisket, ostrich lasagna and Thai-style bass curry complemented with botanical mixology cocktails or wine experienced in a bespoke and cinematic Belle Epoque retro-chic ambience.
SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP
The emporium sells a range of coffee and rooibos capsules that are compatible with Nespresso machines and are titled after iconic cities such as Napoli and Saint-Tropez. The capsules are also 100% compostable within 62 days in industrial compost facilities.
They also have an on-site botanical microbrewery, which produces four bottled products of cold-brewed rooibos tea, rooibos-infused tonic water and citrus coffee; these can also be enjoyed on tap. The drinks are brewed using only authentic flavours from nature, lightly sweetened with 100% pure Canadian spiced maple, and contain no artificial additives, colourants or preservatives.
Tip: If you join the Loyalty Club, you are entitled to many rewards, including free coffee or rooibos espresso.
