From Zip Lining To Mountain Bike Trails Discover More at The Elgin Railway Market
Spot a steam train, zip line or take advantage of the mountain bike trails surrounding the new Elgin Railway Market
The Elgin Railway Market made its grand opening on Youth Day and there was a widespread of fun things to do at this market. The market is located on the the side of the Elgin train station, where you occasionally spot trains loading up, zipping past or changing tracks.
There is an adventurous element to this market that sets it apart. Activities such as hiking and mountain biking trails as well as zip lining surround the marketplace. If you’ve chosen to get your adrenaline-filled morning workout here, rest assured that there are new shower facilities so adventurists don’t miss a beat of the full market day. At a fee, you will get a towel and shower essentials; and it may be comforting to know that there are no water restrictions in the Elgin area
This old industrial field has evolved into a cultural hub with lots of life and activity. The stalls at the market have a variety of local favourites, from boerekos, Mexican food, low-carb options for the carb-conscious and homemade desserts as well as fresh produce to take home. The stalls offer an array of goodies to indulge in, from ice-cream to the Central Coffee Roastery (in-house coffee roastery), and there is live entertainment every week.
Tip: The market is family- and wheelchair-friendly. You can drop the kids off at the children’s areas where childminders will keep them entertained with various activities including a mini zip line, leaving you free to explore the rest of the market.
Note: The steam trains don’t run by too often, but when they do it is a special occasion that sees everyone light up with excitement. The Ceres Railway Company operates the steam trains with ad hoc trips passing through the market. In the near future, a lever will be available for the public to help change the train tracks, bringing out your inner Iron Man.
