The Company’s Garden Party in Cape Town
Enjoy live music, beer, wine, Pimm's and bubbly in the Mother City’s equivalent to New York's Central Park
Celebrate the holiday season and revel in the Mother City’s scenic beauty in one of Cape Town’s most historic and breathtaking gardens at The Company’s Garden Party, a first-of-its-kind event that is set to run every afternoon (from 12pm to 9pm) from Friday, 14 December 2012 to Sunday, 23 December 2012.
Centred on relaxation, refreshment and replenishment, this 11-day summer soiree – which forms part of the Cape Town Summer Market and takes place in front of the Iziko South African National Gallery in the Company’s Garden – invites Capetonians and visitors alike to unwind in the outdoors with refreshing drinks, tasty food and live music while soaking up the sights and sounds of this lush city centre oasis.
To make the most of the views and sunshine, the family-friendly fair will be set on the garden’s sprawling lawns where tables, benches and large umbrellas will be set up for guests’ use.
As the ‘garden party’ is in its essence a beer garden (the city’s first one that’s actually based in a garden), a diverse selection of cold draft brews will be on offer. Partygoers can look forward to several mainstream options – Grolsch Premium Lager, Castle Lite and Peroni Nastro Azzurro – as well as a small assortment of craft beers on tap, including Boston Breweries’ Johnny Gold Weiss, Naked Mexican and Van Hunks Pumpkin Ale.
Those with less of a taste for lager can sip on easy-drinking Alvi’s Drift white wines – namely their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier – or quench their thirst with Everson’s tasty apple or pear ciders or a Pimm’s and lemonade. In a celebratory spirit, the drinks menu will also include local, award-winning Kumkani Infiniti bubbly, and to keep the peckish happy, there will be a mouth-watering array of beer-centric food, including gourmet steak rolls, authentic German sausages, and platters of cheese and cold meats.
In terms of entertainment, a number of gifted jazz musicians, such as acclaimed guitarist Errol Dyers, talented pianist Wathiq Hoosain, bass guitarist Mlungisi Gegana and big brass band the Little Giants, will perform regular sets throughout the 11 days of the fair. And for the little ones (yes, children are welcome to attend this laid-back open-air garden gathering), there will be a safe kids’ play zone just opposite the party site.
Needless to say, with The Company’s Garden Party as an option on Cape Town’s summer calendar, those looking for good old honest fun in the sun (and after sunset) this December need not look any further.
