Keep the chill at bay with this Route 62 winelands fiesta’s warming fortified wines and wintery grub!
Looking for something sweet and savoury to warm you up this winter? Well, we’ve got just the thing for you! Banish that icy nip in the air with a hefty helping of hearty broths and vinos at the 2016 Breedekloof Soetes & Soup food and dessert wine festival from Friday, 22 to Saturday, 23 July 2016.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2016 BREEDEKLOOF SOETES & SOUP FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL
TASTE THE FRUITS OF THE VINE: The festival is spread out across the Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Goudini, and Breede River areas and each of the participating wine farms will showcase their finest wines. While the extravaganza is set to feature something for every taste, the main focus of the showcase will be the wide range of multi award-winning soetes (also known as dessert wines), including Hanepoot, Muscadel, Noble Late Harvest, Red Jerepigo and Port. Aside from sampling the sweet nectars, guests can also enjoy a number of different food and wine pairings, like the chocolate soup and port pairing and more.
SOUP, SOUP AND MORE SOUP: To complement the wide array of soetes on offer, each estate will also serve up a signature soup. There are a variety of flavours on offer (think: biltong and blue cheese, cheese burger and waterblommetjie soup, to name a few), so visitors can warm up with bowls of steaming good-for-the-soul broths and chowders. What’s more, some of the venues will also offer other menu selections for those who are looking for something more substantial to tuck into.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES: As was the case in previous years, festival-goers will be spoilt for choice with a schedule of entertainment and activities for all ages. Little ones can look forward to having loads of fun in the play areas while adults enjoy live music from local artists. There will also be an indoor farmers market at Opstal Estate where you can get fresh produce and gourmet Roosterkoeke, and a unique wine and cupcake tasting at Kirabo Private Cellar. Make sure you journey around the world with Bergsig Estate’s transnational soup and wine pairing.
DISCOUNTS ON VINOS: And, if the aforementioned features are not enough to lure you to this Route 62 region, then this may tickle your fancy: some of the participating vino producers will be offering patrons up to 25% off their signature wines. With discounts galore, grape worshippers can stock up on exclusive ranges, top-notch fortified wines and more.
NOTE: We’ve only picked out a few of our favourite features on this list, so make sure you check out the full programme at Breedekloof.com.
