Cape Peninsula Marathon & Half Marathon
Lace up those running shoes and hit the streets for a scenic run through the Mother City!
Billed as Africa’s fastest marathon, the popular Cape Peninsula Marathon & Half Marathon challenges athletes to take to the Mother City’s tarmac in one of two races on Sunday, 21 February 2016.
As a qualifying event for both the Two Oceans and the Comrades marathons, this largely flat, straight trot from the city to Simon’s Town offers runners the chance to improve their times, get a good seeding as well as cram in some last-minute training for major races.
Organised by Rondebosch running club the Celtic Harriers, the contest was initiated by Alex Jones in 1964 and in its first year saw 19 runners finish. Now, after 52 years and 49 competitions – no races were held between 1994 and 1997 due to lack of sponsorship – the annual event continues to provide fitness enthusiasts a fast-paced, moderately gruelling route through historic and scenic parts of Cape Town.
