Century City Natural Goods Sunday Market
Wholesome family fun in the Northern Suburbs
While the Century City Natural Goods Sunday Market may be mere minutes from the chaos of Canal Walk, the family-friendly calendar highlight is a far cry from the shopping mall’s crazed whirlpool of activity.
Set on the grassy expanse next to Intaka Island – a 16-hectare wetland and bird sanctuary in the heart of Century City – the once-monthly outdoor event is an oasis of calm and a haven for those looking for something to do with the kids, canines, grannies and grandpas on weekends. Not to mention, with the summer season in full swing, it's a fun-filled shopping alternative that also affords aisle cruisers the opportunity to spend some time in the company of the splendid African sunshine.
On Sunday, 24 February 2013, the market – now in its fourth season – sees a host of familiar faces and a hearty helping of once-off entertainment.
Though all the usual suspects – vendors selling artisan food, handcrafted jewellery, all-natural body products and locally-made clothing – will certainly be present and accounted for, what separates the Natural Goods Market from the pack is the hefty assortment of FREE activities on offer for both kiddies and adults.
Little ones can look forward to hitting high notes on the jumping castle, romping around with the NGO African Tail’s adoptable furry friends and just generally expelling lots of pent-up energy on the village green.
What’s more, every 30 minutes, the Ratanga Junction train will chug and tug its way into the market, giving kiddies the chance to take a ride ‘on the house’.
All in all though, adults will also find themselves pleasantly distracted. With plenty of picnic tables set up in both the sun and shade, the market provides the perfect perch on which to indulge in a leisurely lunch while taking in some smooth Sunday tunes.
So, whether you’re planning on grabbing a glass of organic bubbly, home-brewed beer or freshly-squeezed juice, at the Century City Natural Goods Market, you can count on having a refreshing (and affordable) day in the sun.
