Fifth 46664 Concert in Johannesburg Ellis Park
Artists performing at the Nelson Mandela fifth anual 46664 concert in Joburg to be announced soon
The City of Johannesburg is to play host to the international 46664 HIV and AIDS Awareness concert on 1 December 2007 as part of former President Nelson Mandela’s fight against the pandemic.
Mr Mandela has announced the fifth 46664 concert will take place at Ellis Park Stadium, calling for every one to support Africa’s response to the global problem.
He said HIV and AIDS awareness was also being raised through a play currently making rounds in schools and communities
“I am delighted that we are engaging young people in schools and communities, and helping them to realise that the power to beat the HIV and AIDS lies in their hands,” he said.
The 46664 campaign is a South African based independent not-for-profit entity owned by the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF).
The foundation’s aim is to raise awareness of the fight against the global HIV/AIDS pandemic.
R20 million has been raised from similar concerts and allocated to HIV and AIDS projects.
The first star-studded 46664 concert was held in Cape Town followed by George, Spain and Norway.
Tickets to the Ellis Park 46664 concert will range from R140 to R450 and about 50 000 people are expected to witness the concert which will include about 35 international and local artists.
More information on the concert and the line-up of artists performing will be announced on 15 October. - BuaNews
