Fragile Fynbos Exhibition at La Motte
Admire pretty pottery inspired by our dynamic Fynbos biome in the beautiful setting of this Franschhoek wine farm
If you’re passionate about art and nature then this pottery exhibition should be right up your tree. As part of the annual Franschhoek Art in Clay Festival, La Motte will be hosting a gorgeous ceramic expo celebrating our diverse Cape Floral Kingdom. Many acclaimed ceramicists will be exhibiting their delicate works at the Fragile Fynbos exhibition, which takes place at the prestigious wine farm’s museum from Saturday, 24 October, until Saturday, 28 November.
Each of the featured ceramicists has created a bespoke set for the exhibition in the maturation cellar of the La Motte Tasting Room. All pieces on show will speak to the theme of Cape flora, with the many species adorning the Franschhoek Mountains serving as the primary inspiration. The ceramic sets, all fit for the table, combine functionality with the individual artist’s delicate and distinctive techniques.
The exhibitors include John Bauer, Elsje Burger, Ceramic Matters, Paul de Jongh, Diane Harper, Amelia Jacobs, Hilda Kruger, Catherine Landman, Ineke Nicolle, Jo Pentz, Lisa Ringwood, Janie Siebert, Sue van Rensburg, David Walters and Sarah Walters. All the artists are respected both locally and internationally, with varied styles that are sure to make for a stimulating and beautiful display.
A complementary exhibition, also at the La Motte Museum, will examine the history of flowers as inspiration for ceramics. Aside from the pretty pottery, there’ll also be an educational talk on our Cape floral biome presented by Cherise Viljoen, senior horticulturist at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, on 19 November. Following the talk, guests can opt to partake in a delicious Cape Winelands dinner – booking is essential.
