Helderberg Sunset Concert Series

We’re quite lucky in the Western Cape to have summer evenings that seem to last a lifetime. With the sun only setting after 8pm, we have more daylight hours kill… or to embrace at our leisure; so why not enjoy some live music? The Helderberg Sunset Concert Series takes place every second Sunday and runs until 28 February 2016 at the Helderberg Nature Reserve in Somerset West. The renowned Blacksmith bluegrass band are set to take to the stage at the next sunset concert, bringing their mix of country, bluegrass and Gaelic music to the open-air venue. What’s better is that these evening soirees are family friendly and will relax your soul – sounds like the perfect way to end a weekend.

On Sunday, 31 January 2016, the Helderberg’s own popular music revival group Shiraz will bring their magnificent melodies to the gig with a mix of rock and country from past decades. Then, two weeks later, Somerset West locals Morning Ms Dednam will have a jam on stage. The four-piece alternative rock band is named after their music teacher (Ms Dednam), and they will appease your eardrums with light rock and jazz infusions. The final concert of the series will see the popular Afrikaans folk rocker Valiant Swart perform. With around 3000 shows under his belt, this singer/songwriter from Stellies is likely to be a hit, and will close the series on a high note.

Pack a picnic blanket, bring the family and settle on the lush lawns for an evening of amazing local music and superb sunsets. You will thank yourself during the week.
