Mandela Month at DARG
Lend a paw this Mandela Day and show a furry friend some love
Mandela Day is just around the corner, falling on Monday, 18 July 2016, and with it, comes the quest to do good as bequeathed to us by our Tata Madiba. Typically, this involves dedicating 67 minutes to a worthwhile charitable act – but DARG is giving eager do-gooders the chance to further help our fluffy friends, throughout an extended Mandela Month.
On Saturday, 16 July 2016, the Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG) will be hosting a special Mandela Day Celebration to allow visitors to have a ball and show their ‘suPAWt’ for the excellent work the organisation is doing. There’ll be a garage sale, food and coffee trucks, an auction, and plenty of opportunities to donate and volunteer. The furry fun starts at 10am and ends at 3pm, so if you have a heart for cute little critters, you’ll definitely need to add this one to your calendar.
If you can’t make the 16th, don’t worry! You can still get involved as throughout the month, DARG will be asking for various donations – in fact, there’s a list of 67 different things the group needs, including animal food, toys, blankets, cleaning products, hardware and more. You can also look at becoming a DARG member and regularly financially supporting the group, sponsoring animal sterilisation or registering to become a volunteer. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a new best friend, this could be your moment. Don’t shop, adopt; and remember your new pet is an investment, so think it through and make sure it’s the right decision before you start the adoption process. You can view the full wish list on the Facebook event, or contact DARG directly on +27 (21) 790 0383.

Entry to the event is R10p/p, and be sure to bring plenty of cash to purchase goodies in support of the kitties and dogs. If you can’t make the 16th, get in touch with DARG to organise another volunteering opportunity or consult the 67 wish list to see what items you can donate.
