Museum of Childhood Pop-Up Toy Exhibition in Cape Town
Embrace your inner child with this kid-centric museum filled with of plenty of delights for both the young and young at heart.
Childhood is one of the most precious experiences we have, from running around and playing with friends to exploring the world with unrivalled curiosity. Adults and little ones are invited to revisit this innocent chapter when the Cape Town Museum of Childhood hosts a pop-up exhibition at The Watershed at the V&A Waterfront from Wednesday, 24 June to Friday, 17 July 2015.
The Cape Town Museum of Childhood is only set to launch in 2016, but the pop-up exhibition serves as a way for Mother City residents to get a sneak peek of what awaits them before this kid-centric playground becomes a permanent fixture. The pop-up toy exhibition runs in partnership with toy collector Verna Jooste who has amassed over 1000 toys over the last decade or so. Kids can view various collector’s items with some playthings dating all the back to 1910!
The museum is opening its first-ever event with a variety of toys, gadgets, dolls and more to delight little ones and elicit nostalgia from the adults. This means that not only will children have the opportunity to view the toys, but they can play with them as well – a crucial element to the Early Childhood Development foundational phase.
For those not in the know, the museum is backed by the National Lotteries Distribution Fund and aims to highlight the role that children play in society by providing comprehensive exhibits featuring oral history, heritage and the interpretation of a child’s early years.
If you’re seeking other ways to keep your little ones occupied, here’s our list of things to do over the school holidays.
