Optical Diversion Exhibition at Eclectica Gallery
Venture into a world of abstraction with this eye-catching show
If you’re in the mood for eye-catching illusions and diverting art then this exhibition should tickle your optical nerve. Running from Thursday, 5 May, until Sunday, 31 July, Optical Diversion is the latest offering from Eclectica Design and Art Gallery in Buitengracht Street.
The show promises to be an exploration of the abstracted image – a picture warped by optical language and cunningly depicted with a South African spin by a group of talented local contemporary artists. These six creatives will question our knowledge of form and space whilst drilling into key questions about perception, and a reimagining of the histories that South African artists create within.
See if you can identify the fluid landscapes of Zarah Cassim, the illusionary worlds of Albert Coertse, the expressive materiality of paint in the works of Asanda Kupa and James De Villiers, the play of chiaroscuro and colour contemplation in Catherine Ocholla’s paintings, and the interplay between abstraction and materiality in Mark Rautenbach’s works.
ENTRY TO THE 2016 OPTICAL DIVERSION EXHIBITION AT ECLECTICA GALLERY
Entry to the gallery is free. The gallery is open from 9:30am until 5pm.
