SAADA Antiques, Art and Design Expo in Cape Town
Whether you prefer the old or the new, there will be something for everyone at this quirky expo
Collectors and connoisseurs of the finer things in life are in for a treat this month. The South African Antique, Art & Design Association (SAADA) will be hosting a major expo at the V&A Waterfront from Friday, 12 to Sunday, 14 February 2016. More than just a showcase of vintage artworks or modern collectibles, the SAADA Cape Town Expo is highly unique in its diversity. For more information, contact admin@saada.co.za or phone +27 (0)11 880 0815.
The range of artefacts on show vary from centuries-old to ultra-modern, but they all have one thing in common; they tell a story of the mood, perception and ideas of the day in which they were made. “Antiques, when they were made, were the most fashionable, edgy items to have in their day,” says SAADA CEO Paul Mrkusic. “Present-day design pieces will continue on this timeline and will hold their value – they will always be sought after,” he says.
With such valuable, rare and incredibly diverse relics, steeped in history and culture, on display at this expo, you are guaranteed to find something that catches your eye or fascinates you in some way. Some of the notable items on display include two 1960 Chamber of Mines medallions (one in English and the other in Afrikaans, which were the forerunners of the Krugerrand), a wide variety of modern and vintage artworks from local sculptors and painters of varying acclaim, antique furniture and art from as far back as 206 BC, jewellery, collectibles and loads more.
Come find out the amazing stories behind each display from the knowledgeable and experienced collectors who have sourced the highest quality pieces for this expo. Even if you don’t buy anything, you will walk away with a new outlook on antiques and art.
