South African Antique, Art and Design Association Expo in Cape Town
Check out some of the best in local art, design and antiques with this three-day exhibition at the V & A Waterfront
Trawling through the attic is no longer necessary since this annual showcase chock-full of treasures is headed to the Cape Town. That’s right design and antique enthusiasts, the South African Antique, Art and Design Association sets up shop at the V &A Waterfront from Friday, 12 to Sunday 14 February 2016, where shoppers can scope all the latest goods and trends. Check out our full overview of the event here.
The annual expo, which is held around South Africa, features local designs and antiques from across the country. Dispelling the notion that old-timey trinkets are frumpy or solely for the older crowds, the annual to-do will host a selection that promises to be bigger and better than before. The three- day event will also have a gala opening that eager shopaholics can attend to get the sneak peek on the desirable goods.
Guests can look forward to browsing some truly astonishing artefacts on display, like Chinese porcelain hailing from the Qing Dynasty, bronze sculptures and even jewellery from the Victorian era. The exhibition has expanded to include art and a myriad of other valuables centuries past to modern contemporary. Look out for local fine artists, like Christopher Bladen and jewellery design duo Ida Elsje and Phillipa Green and Olive Green Cat.
For those not in the know, the term “antique” refers to items that are over a century old, while vintage collectibles apply to goods manufactured during the 1920s to 1980s. Scope out treasures or simply find out some more things about vintage design and have a fun day out.
