The Cape Town's Festive Lights Gala 2009
Watch Cape Town's great annual switch-on-ceremony in Adderley Street
Award-winning performers Jozi, the Rockets, Emo Adams, Ringo Madlingozi and Ready D will headline a star-studded line-up for the annual switch-on ceremony of Cape Town’s festive lights in Adderley Street.
Hosted by the City of Cape Town, the seven-hour live concert on Sunday November 29 2009 promises a feast of star performances by Cape Town’s leading entertainers.
About 100 000 people are expected to gather in Adderley Street from approximately 15:00 on the Sunday to enjoy the free, open-air concert before the lights are switched on at 20:00 by Executive Mayor Dan Plato.
Live performances will continue on stage until 22:00.
Well-known radio and television personality Soli Philander and the popular Joe Barber comedy duo will guide the live stage proceedings.
This will be followed by a 2 000-strong carnival parade, which will start at the Heerengracht Fountain, turn at Strand Street and move down Adderley Street.

20:00 Official switch-on of the Festive Lights by Executive Mayor Dan Plato accompanied by soccer VIP's
20:05 Carnival parade trough the streets. The procession will include spectacular floats, minstrel troupes, drum majorettes, cartoon characters, brass bands, stilt walkers, fire dancers, jugglers, acrobats and the SA Navy band.
In addition to a strong soccer theme in the magnificent light displays, the City has created a ‘Soccer Zone’ from 14:00 to 22:00 at the Heerengracht circle. Here soccer fans will be able to meet and interact with players from Ajax CT and Santos FC, as well as Bafana Bafana stars, Matthew Booth and Lance Davids.
Other entertainment includes a diski dance competition, five-a-side soccer games, ‘foos-ball’ playoffs and freestyler demos. There will also be a live broadcast by Heart 104.9 radio station.
Please note that on this day between 12:00 and 24:00 both carriageways of the Heerengracht and Adderley Street will be closed between Bureau Street and Coen Steytler Avenue. All side streets leading to Adderley Street will also be closed and traffic will be diverted elsewhere.
No parking will be permitted in Adderley Street between 06:00 and 24:00. Parking will be made available on the Grand Parade and surrounds as well Queen Victoria Street and Wale Street.
To celebrate the event, the City of Cape town has arranged to keep the lights at Table Mountain switched on until midnight on Sunday the 29th of November.
