Greencube Nursery and Garden Studio
Indigenous material, herbs, good old-fashioned garden plants and kiddies jungle gyms
Whether you have a 'green thumb' or not, this is a nice place to be. Seeing things grow and blossom is very fulfilling. The Greencube Nursery and Garden Studio is a lovely spot just to look around and consider what you could have in your personal garden.
At the foot of Chapman’s Peak, the Greencube Nursery and Garden Studio is part of the Noordhoek Farm Village, a community hang out spot including restaurants, pubs, shops, as well as a hotel and spa. Herbs, vegetables, organic products, many indigenous plants (proteas, ericas etc.), succulents (perfect for water shortages) and shade-tolerant plants are available. That is besides that advice and personal assistance from owner and landscaper Arlo Mitchell. Also make sure you also have a quick peek into the worm farm next door and look out for the worm farm demonstrations, kids love it.
"We are trying to create a mood here," Arlo says and his passion and enthusiasm for plants shine through in his interactions with staff and visitors. One thing that will immediately catch your eye is the organic jungle gyms (CCA free). Arlo builds them himself. You can buy what you see or he can custom make magical play structures, wild swings and dreamy couches, especially for your kid. For the grown-ups, rustic timber furniture as well as sculptural pieces are available.
The bossy hens and dapper cockerel also provide much entertainment!
Local is lekker
At the Greencube Nursery you won’t find overdeveloped and deceptive annuals, a chemical arsenal of fertilizers nor a doomsday collection of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. What you will find are beautiful and practical plants that will hold their own in our varied local conditions.
'Wherever you garden, we have something to suit your needs,' is the motto.
While 'local is lekker' and the Greencube Nursery stock a large variety of indigenous material, they also say 'the planet just has too much to offer.' Therefore they also offer many useful and beautiful plants from all over the world. So you will also find the odd Mexican sage, Pride of Madeira, Foxglove, Snow drop and Azalea at this Noordhoek nursery. For the foodies, a wide selection of culinary and aromatic herbs, seasonal veggies, perennials such as asparagus and artichoke and a small selection of fruit trees are available.
Arlo and his team promote good old fashioned soil conditioning techniques. Find rich well rotted kraal manure, well rounded organic compost, pelletized organic fertilizers and root stimulating bone meal all topped off with a thick layer of bark or compost mulch. 'Get the basics right and Mother nature will do the rest.' People here love sharing their garden knowledge.
If the plant you are after is a little obscure, they will do their best to track it down and should you need plants in bulk, Arlo and team will arrange a delivery for you.
