Idiom Restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre in the Helderberg
A new exclusive Winelands destination with majestic mountain-top views
While Da Capo Vineyards, the home of Idiom Wines, located in the southernmost part of the Stellenbosch wine region has always offered visitors dramatic heights and magnificent vistas, the Somerset West winery (situated near Sir Lowry’s Pass) now too offers guests an all-new venue located at the top of the mountainous vineyard in the form of Idiom Restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre.
Flaunting its own spectacular panoramic views of the majestic Helderberg basin as well as the Cape Peninsula region stretching from Table Mountain all the way across to Cape Point, the Idiom Restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre – which officially opened its doors in June 2016, invites all to experience the true home of Idiom wines including its exclusive vino offering and unique property surrounded by granite mountains and rolling fynbos-covered hills.
The Da Capo Vineyards, first laid down by the Bottega Family in 1999 (Idiom wine owners), includes a vast selection of Italian varietals – think Sangiovese, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Primitivo, justly reflecting the Bottega Family’s European heritage.
The new exclusive 60-seater venue presents guest with a unique experience and merge of cultures, seamlessly fusing old- and new-school elements where classically-styled Roman arches and stone porticos meet in a contemporary and modernistic feel.
The new restaurant offers guests a fusion of South African and Italian dishes (all with a modern twist) created to pair with the extensive Idiom wine selection. Diners can expect a seasonal a la carte menu where one of the main features will be the multi-course degustation menus (only available by prior booking). Walk-in wine tasters can choose from the restaurants lighter canapé and wine parings selections. What’s more, the venue also hosts a casual outdoor terrace ideal for family-friendly gatherings.
Furthermore, the dining space is linked to the Idiom wine tasting centre where vino-lovers can sample and purchase the estate’s flagship blends and its signature Italian varietals as well as apply for an allocation of the Limited Release Idiom 900 Series. In addition, the estate’s rare wine-inspired perfumes, luxury leather handbags and other must-have exclusive accessories will also be incorporated and showcased within the space.
NOTE: The restaurant’s a la carte menu is only available by prior booking. Booking is advised for larger wine tasting groups as well.
Tip: In the warmer months, Idiom will offer their Deli section and Italian Wine Experience (aimed at increasing the local public’s awareness of Italian varieties and wines). Guests will also be able to order a picnic basket from the Deli to enjoy under the thatch-covered lapas.
