Dinner and a Show with Rockwell Theatre
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. What happens in Cape Town gets told to your mom, dad, tannie, ouma, second cousin and neighbour down the street
“Kaapse Stories from the Mother City” is dinner theatre at its best; a delicious four-course meal is served with a side of musical fun. You’ll be treated to a quirky mix of local and international songs, with authentically Capetonian stories that speak to the heart of every person who has ever loved or lived in the Mother City. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, you too can bear witness to this exciting musical masterpiece at The Rockwell Theatre.
The unique dinner experience celebrates the joyful, resilient spirit of the diverse people who populate the city that lies at the foot of Table Mountain in a charmingly humorous way. With classic songs made famous by artists such as Miriam Makeba, Freddie Mercury and even Shakira, “Kaapse Stories” offers something for everyone. In five years the performers at The Rockwell Theatre in Green Point have brought smiles, laughs and tears to more than 1200 audiences.‘Enchanted’ best describes what audiences are when they discover the magical voices and soaring talent on display in this unique, local production.
The dinner element is packed with enough local and international flavours to make it a star in own right. You can look forward to traditional dishes, such as Malay samoosa and snoek pate served with roast vegetables. A buffet of vegetable biryani, fish, beef fillet, potato bake, chicken, samp, rice and other classic Cape dishes is on offer for your main course. They did not forget about going all out on the desserts – we’re talking melktert, koeksisters, malva pudding and a fruit sosati!
“Kaapse Stories” is the brainchild of theatre co-owners Richard Loring and Roland Seidel. The musical production is a wonderful combination of their strengths. Richard recently celebrated 50 years in showbiz, enjoying more than 20 years as a successful producer of works like “African Footprints” (the longest-running musical in the country). Tourism Entrepreneur Roland is German, but passionately South African at heart and determined to show people that Cape Town is more than just beautiful views.
