NEW: Tom Kha, Charred Pork Salad And Gin Downstairs
Taste the entire menu when you order their “One of Everything” option
This is an old feature. Read about The Melting Pot's new spot in the Elgin Valley.
The Melting Pot Cafeteria opened on 18 October 2019 as the owner John van Zyl wants to bring good food from around the world to Wale Street. It reflects a melting pot of different cuisines like tom kha, vegan potstickers, oysters and a Vietnamese noodle salad. Or try one of everything on the menu. Anyone with a love of food and people are invited.
A MENU FIT FOR YOUR BUCKET LIST
Expect items like tom kha (a tomato, mushroom and coconut broth), vegan potstickers, fresh oysters, tuna tataki with cucumber and an orange miso emulsion, and a Vietnamese charred pork noodle salad. Plus two dessert options, including affogato (espresso and vanilla bean ice-cream) which comes highly recommended because it's simple yet delicious. These dishes cost between R75 and R85. Alternatively, you can try their "One of Everything" option, which costs R540 and includes everything on the menu.
There's a small drinks menu which gives you a choice between water, beer and wine - usually starting at R45. The Gin Bar is just downstairs if you're looking to enjoy a cocktail before or after.
ENJOY YOUR TOM KHA WITH STRANGERS IF YOU WANT
The Melting Pot Cafeteria is hidden away above Honest Chocolate and The Gin Bar. A minimalistic approach was used in the decorating of the spacious venue. There are two large communal tables to encourage dining with strangers. But if you're looking to dine more privately, smaller four-seater and two-seater terracotta tables line the walls. Some are by the window and overlook Wale Street.
WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THE MELTING POT
John has three compelling reasons: You can start off the evening at The (Secret) Gin Bar, then have a delicious meal accompanied by a great vibe, and can end off the night with more dessert options that you can dream of at Honest Chocolate (which is also downstairs).
