We’re having an unseasonably warm winter and Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, is inviting all (especially the foodies) to come eat, play and stay with its irresistible Winter Warmer specials. There’s something for every moment, every day of the week:

The 2-course Winter Warmer Menus for lunch and supper, a Celebration of Cognac and Chocolate, Afternoon Tea and Jazz Brunch every Sunday. And there’s a special accommodation rate (one child stays for free).

SHARE A THREE-CHEESE FONDUE

The Winter Warmer Specials are a selection of tummy-warming, two-course meals, created by Executive Chef Rudi Liebenberg, that can be eaten in one of three places: the light and airy Conservatory; the elegant, comfortable Lounge or fireside in the glamorous Planet Bar.

The 3-cheese Fondue is one of the options, a gorgeous, rich blend of Gruyère, mature cheddar and Emmental that is scooped up with tasty morsels, including crunchy croutes, chorizo and apple. Then there are plump Saldanha mussels simmered in beer and spice, or fragrant, spicy curries with crunchy poppadoms, rotis and sambals. Second course is a dessert, like a self-saucing chocolate pudding or caramelised apple pudding.

KEEP COSY WITH COGNAC AND CHOCOLATE  

When it’s pouring outside and inside is the only place to be, head to the Planet Bar for its irresistible Celebration of Cognac and Chocolate. The featured cognac is Hennessy VSOP, and the chocolates were made in the Nellie’s kitchen and are infused with fragrant flavours, such as orange, hazelnut and chilli. Even better if you can have this served at the crackling fire.

BOOK THE BUCKET-LIST AFTERNOON TEA

One of the most enduring offerings this elegant pink lady offers is Afternoon Tea. There are two sittings and it’s a celebration of all things savoury and sweet, from traditional cucumber sandwiches with their crusts perfectly trimmed, to layered gateaux and soft chiffon cakes. All of this is served in the light and airy lounge, with its pianist Henry Dike tinkling away.

END THE WEEKEND WITH SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH

Every Sunday, there is a Jazz Brunch, a very popular and lovely way to spend a weekend morning. Start off the wind-down day with Cape Town’s well-known Buddy Wells Trio, a hearty coffee (or unlimited bubbly) and a leisurely breakfast.

When and where: Sunday, 11.30 – 3pm; every Sunday at the Oasis Restaurant at Mount Nelson
