South African National Beer Day
This Saturday. Drop everything. Join us.
Last updated: 30 January 2024
Drop everything you’re doing on Saturday, 3 February. It’s South Africa National Beer Day. There’s beers, braais, small batch brews and burgers (luckily it’s after payday).
Here’s three special events in and around Cape Town, from small batch tastings to a beer launch with live music.
SMALL BATCH BREWS TO TASTE
The guys who turned sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll into really cool beer names are hosting a small batch madness jol (that’s where you’ll find us). Come and hang out in the Bavarian-style beer hall or on the balcony overlooking the bustling Victoria Road, while tasting four small batch limited beers.
Pair a Woodstock FUCT Strong Lager or Double Mr Brownstone with easy-does-it comfort foods. You can also taste nine craft beers on tap at Woodstock Brewery.
Time: 12pm - late
Cost: Free entry, book via 021 203 3045

BRAAI AND BEER ON LONG STREET
Name a better combo. Beerhouse is celebrating Beer Day with three lekker national dishes and locally produced beers to wash them down. You can pick a meat (T-bone, lamb chop or half chicken) and they will braai it for you.
Plus, if you buy any selected beer, you can get free tasters. There’s also a specially curated National Beer Day Tasting Tray with the top award winning beers from the motherland.
Time: 12pm - 7pm
Cost: Free entry; R279 for lamb chops, R129 for half chicken, R159 for T-Bone steak

NEW LAUNCH (AND LIVE MUSIC)
Known for pushing the boundaries on flavour, Aegir Project Brewery has creative brews like Little Hop of Horrors, Nostalgic Pale Ale and Milky Way Galaxy series.
They will be launching a brand new beer on Saturday, with live music by Gravel Roads. Tuck into some Neapolitan-style sourdough pizzas, while the kids go crazy on the playground.
Time: TBC; for more details see @aegirproject
Cost: Free entry, book via 066 587 9324

It’s one day a year. The holiday you didn’t know you needed. Bring your buds and taste some of the best brews in the Mother City.
