SpyKids Isn’t Just A Movie From 2001 Anymore

There’s all-out war in Milnerton and it’s a lot of innocent fun (+ video of what a Nerf War is!)

Pretend you’re spy kids Carmen and Juni Cortez for a day and shoot foam bullets at friends or strangers at the Sunningdale Sports Complex. On 24 November, SpyKids Cape Town is hosting its first-ever Nerf War in Milnerton for ages six and up. This is the only time aiming a (fake) gun at someone will ever be acceptable.

ARE YOUR NERF’S SHOT?

Nerf games are similar to old-time classics like paintball and laser tag. They use guns known as blasters, and the bullets are called Nerf darts, which are usually made of foam.

Don't let their softness fool you, though. According to Dailymail.co.uk, experts recently found that some Nerf darts and other projectiles can cause damage to the eyes. For this reason, SpyKids are not allowing players to bring their own ammo – the darts are included in the price of the ticket to ensure their standards are met and the game is safe.

PLAY LIKE A PRO

At the moment, the game consists of three zones. Players rotate between the zones in 30-minute intervals, with 15 minutes between each to rest and reload. According to the organiser, the more people attend, the more zones there'll be. What's more, all games are themed. Think along the lines of Humans vs Zombies, Royal Rumble, Storm the Fort and All-Out War.

Please note that you have to reserve your spot on the organiser's Facebook page before you can buy a ticket on Quicket. Tickets are R100 for players and R25 for spectators.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Blasters and safety goggles are not provided, nor can they be rented on the day, so each player must bring their own equipment. Vendors will be selling basic safety glasses, buffs, bandanas, blaster attachments, magazines and ammo clips, amongst other things. There's also a tuckshop for snacks and drinks.

Please note: this is not a "drop and go" event: parents cannot leave their children unattended at the venue.
