Cape Town Toy Run Hosts National Toy Run Forum
The National Toy Run Forum moves to Cape Town for 2009
The Cape Town Motorcycle Toy Run has the privilege of hosting the 2009 National Toy Run Forum. This is the fourth annual forum, where most of the 22 officially recognised Toy Runs from around the country and the region, will meet to exchange ideas and feedback about this well-known international charity event.
For the uninitiated, more than an estimated 65,000 motorcyclists turn out across the region at the end of November each year, to donate toys and make the holidays a little brighter for disadvantaged children of all races in orphanages, shelters, homes and hospitals throughout the country’s communities.
The aims of the Toy Run are to improve and enhance the image of motorcyclists and to collect and distribute toys and gifts to less privileged children up to 18 years old, over the holiday period.
The Cape Town Motorcycle Toy Run, hosted annually by the IMOC Cape Town Charity Toy Run Trust, has been given ‘Iconic Event’ status by the City of Cape Town.
The event has been recognised in this way due to its incredible growth and immense public support over the years, and will be celebrating its 27th anniversary in 2009.
Scheduled for the weekend of May 1 and 2, the National Toy Run Forum brings together the independent organisers and coordinators of the individual Toy Run charity events, from as far away as Windhoek, Namibia, as well as from smaller Toy Run’s such as Heidelberg, Cape, where a mere 35 motorcyclists gather to collect toys for their local community’s poor.
The concept is to promote the use of a common logo, the securing of national sponsorship, and sharing of ideas, resources and information, where organisers can share common problems, challenges and concerns and potentially solve these together.
