Iron Maiden Concert South Africa
Get ready to rock as Britain’s best heavy metal band heads to Mzansi shores in 2016
No, this is not a drill Iron Maiden fans! The too-cool-for-school retro rockers and godfathers of Britain’s heavy metal scene have announced that they’ll be making their way to South Africa as part of their Book of Souls world tour in 2016. Titled after their brand new album of the same name (it’s set for release in September 2015), the global expedition will see the group travel to six continents in a Boeing 747-400 jet (called Ed Force One), captained by vocalist Bruce Dickinson – we can only hope that he’s as good at flying a plane as he is at singing!

Any fan of the heavy metal genre will undoubtedly know of, and most likely worship, the Iron Maiden group, which was founded by bassist and songwriter Steve Harris in 1975. If you need to be reminded why the band remains one of the world’s most successful acts today, after a solid four decades in the industry, watch some of the videos below.
It was during the 80s that Iron Maiden started to achieve global fame. In 1982, they released The Number of the Beast, followed by Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Live After Death in 1983, 1984 and 1985 respectively. These platinum- and gold-status albums were then topped by 1986’s Somewhere in Time and 1988’s Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. In 1999, Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith (guitarist) re-joined the group (they both left in 1990), leading to a sudden resurgence in the ensemble’s popularity and appeal to a new younger audience. They released The Final Frontier in 2010, which went to number one in 28 different countries, proving once and for all that the Maidens were back. The Book of Souls will be their 16th studio album and is set to debut on Friday, 4 September 2015. It’s the group’s first album release in five years, so groupies around the world will be rejoicing.
The band has performed more than 2000 live shows in the span of its four decade-long career, so the crew certainly knows how to entertain and bring down the house with their unparalleled sound. Fans will also know to look out for Eddie – the band’s mascot for the past 35 years. The Book of Souls world tour will cover six of the seven continents and will include over 88,500km of travel around the globe to 35 different countries. Suffice it to say, it’s going to be epic!
