New Playground Opened in Maynardville, Wynberg
Children of Cape Town to play in Style
Children of all ages will benefit from a new playground currently under construction in Maynardville Park.
The first phase of the 2000m² playground is now completed and features an irrigation system, a new ‘adventure’ timber play structure and refurbished equipment from the old playground.
Not even the less-than-fantastic weather could keep the excited children from rushing to the newly painted swings, refurbished see-saw, and plush timber jungle-gym complete with tower-like fort on the morning of the opening.
The park will provide a safe and fun place for Cape Town’s children to play and once completed it will no doubt be Cape Town’s premier children’s playground.
However, most importantly, the new playground got the thumbs up from the City’s harshest playground critics – the children themselves – who were too busy running, jumping, and swinging to be bothered by the ribbon-cutting formalities of the official opening.
The first phase of the project cost R805 000. Funding for the upgrade has been obtained from ward allocations, City Parks’ capital budget and donor funding, which is managed through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cape Town Heritage Trust.
