Red Goes Green at Spier
Maties FM and Spier Wine Estate team up in search of sustainability
Spier has joined the Maties 92.6 FM ‘Red Goes Green' campaign. The wine estate is known for its own sustainability efforts through its ‘In search of sustainability’ campaign and its website ‘The Spier Way.’
The campaign will be supported through easily accessible recycling bin stations, as well as through various events throughout the month of October. Recycling bins will be supplied around the Stellenbosch region and mini-projects will also be run to remove glass bottles from the waste stream.
An on-air campaign on Maties FM will focus on recycling and will include interviews with Spier about their various environmental initiatives.
Seventy percent of the proceeds raised from the recycling of the bottles will be donated to local sporting and upliftment initiatives, including the Kyamandi Swop Shop charity.
The campaign will be supported by events throughout the month of October, these include:
Tree planting: The community is encouraged to join Spier and MFM in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint created by those in the Stellenbosch community.
River clean-up: The community is encouraged to help out in a river clean-up on three days in October.

Amazing Race: Teams from the university, local businesses and the public will be challenged to participate in this race around Stellenbosch.
