Umi Restaurant in Camps Bay
Cape Town’s famous coastal strip’s set to welcome a hot, new Japanese eatery in December 2013
Watch out Nobu, well-known Mother City restaurateur Paul Kovensky has made public plans to launch an elegant, modern Japanese eatery on par with the world-class One & Only-based restaurant in the new 'The Marly' hotel in Camps Bay.
Set to tentatively throw open its doors during December 2013 from its perch on prime Camps Bay real estate, Umi, which means ‘sea’ in Japanese, is poised to serve up premium sushi pieced together under the watchful eye of an internationally acclaimed chef. The celebrity kitchen maestro’s identity remains shrouded in mystery at the moment, but sources confirm that locals should be impressed, very impressed.
Aside from gorgeous sashimi, hand rolls, nigiri and maki, the upmarket restaurant will also dish up delicate Japanese hot cuisine as well as breathtaking sea views. Umi takes up residence directly above Paranga, and thus treats patrons to panoramic ocean vistas complete with atomic sunsets and opportunities for whale-watching.
What’s more, an expansive terrace bar specialising in cocktails and bubbly will take up position at the foot of the eatery, giving those on the hunt for a trendy sundowner spot a new and exciting option.
